I met Dream City Film Club around 1999 on their promotion tour for in the cold light of morning at their gig in Cologne.
They played in a place called Underground with only a couple of people around. Their music was much too loud for the empty club. I viewed from aside the small stage.
Their perfomance was intense, Michael's voice captivating, seductive and poisoning. The sound-noise somewhat irritating.
Sadly there were only that few spectators, but as far as I remember, their new album was not yet released in Germany. I asked to buy one after the show, but they hadn't any with them. So I bought a vinyl version of nerveshot which now hangs signed next to my desk.
I got addicted to Dream City Film Club after I heared god will punsih the pervert preacher on radio. I expected something like that song from the whole album. After searching the local record store I came up with their debut. My hopes scattered to the ground. The sound I listened to was nothing I heard before.
It was a genius, ill-driven, consuming, addicting, corrupting sound-voice thing.
I never got clean of it.
Their music inspired some of my writting, did a good work on seducting my lover and finally drove me to create this site.
In 2004 I did an essay about the Dream City Film Club for a German Reader dealing with the aspects of noir in film, literature, music, computer games, etc. The essay was titled Ein perfektes Stück Müll: Die Musik des Dream City Film Club and viewed the musical style and the lyrics under the noir subject.
